On Speaker, Lieutenant Uhura
I’ve mentioned before that I don’t care for the inconsiderate bozos who yak on their cell phones in public. Now there’s another annoyance that has been bothering me more and more - speakerphones. Around the office these self-proclaimed big shots shout into their speakerphone and EVERYBODY can hear their conversation. Then you go into their offices, start talking about something else and discover they are on the phone talking to someone. It’s embarassing.

Scotty (James Doohan) has beamed up for the last time. I have very fond memories of him when the Star Trek series originally ran. I hear his wish is to have his ashes taken up into space to join his friend, Gene Roddenberry.

Block Party
Chrysler’s annual Block Party was in Cleveland this year. Pam and I decided to drive down for the weekend. The event was nice but it was the downtown waterfront area and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame that we enjoyed the most.
In Ohio on the way home, there were cops every few miles enforcing the speed limit. Coming from Michigan we weren’t used to seeing so many speed traps. The roads are much nicer south of our border too.

Podcast with iTunes
As you may know, the new version of iTunes now includes Podcasting support. It’s a great feature and the directory of podcasts is easy to navigate and add to your playlists.
The problem I’m having with podcasts is finding the time to actually listen to them. The five podcasts to which I’m currently subscribed take about four hours to go through. I can skip past the boring parts but I have trouble keeping up with these constantly updated “broadcasts” each week.
Another potential issue with iTunes supporting podcasting is now large corporations are getting into it. One of the cool things about podcasting is the “pirate radio” feel to the shows I download. With corporations getting involved, the commercialization of this new medium won’t be far behind. The good thing is I will still have the option to only subscribe to feeds that interest me - one’s without commercials.
