Inspect
Last Friday was the final walkthrough for our newly constructed condo. This was our opportunity to walk around the unit and find anything needing repair. They also familiarized us with some of the features of the place. They showed us how to flick a wall switch to turn on the fireplace, turn up the heat on the thermostat and how to run the dishwasher. Even though these things were obvious, the builder is probably required to review everything with us.
This was our first time to see the options we picked completely finished. It was difficult deciding which cabinet would match what floor and if they went with the countertops we selected. Thankfully everything looks great and we’re happy with our selections.
We hired a home inspector to accompany us on the walkthrough. We figured with the amount of money we’re paying for the condo, what’s another $200 to have an additional pair of eyes checking the place out. He did a complete check of everything for over 2 hours and couldn’t find one thing out of order. This inspector told us he has done thousands of inspections and less than 5% of those homes are of the same quality as our new place. He complemented the builder several times on their attention to detail and excellent workmanship.
So we’re closing on the place this Friday and moving in the following weekend. A painter is coming in the week before we move to paint all the rooms while the place is empty. It’s fun coordinating all the things that need to be done for the new place. But we’ll both be glad when it’s finally over.
